Birchbox - February 2015

I love the time of the month when my subscription boxes start coming in!

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription service that is $10 a month.  If you purchase a year in advance you get one month free.  They send 5 deluxe size samples to full size products based on a profile you fill out (and can adjust later).  The actual box is made of a hard cardboard and can be used for other things or gifts.  Although, they did hint that everyone should keep their boxes this year.

For February the theme was Friendship.  When I saw the spoilers for this box I had mixed feelings.  There were some things I was excited about but it doesn't guarantee that's what you'll get.  Then when I got to see my box I was a little sad to be honest, but at the same time, it's only $10 and I get to try things I might not normally try.  The items that I received are listed below but boxes can be different based on your preferences.

Coola® Face SPF 30 Unscented Matte Tint .17oz
I must say I wasn't overly thrilled with this item, especially the size, it's so tiny!  But I am anxious to try it and have heard good things about this brand in general.

Davines MINU Shampoo 2.5oz
I'm interested in trying this product as it says it is good for colored hair, however shampoo is not one of my most sought after products.  Especially when I prefer to buy using coupons and a full size is $25.  And yes, I know that's not the highest priced shampoo ever.

Davines MINU hair serum .2oz
This was listed as a bonus in the box.  Again, I'm anxious to see how this works and if it does well on colored hair as it states.

Gilchrist & Soames London Collection Body Lotion 1oz
Lotion, it's lotion.  I mean, I can get lotion any time.  I get it, I wouldn't normally have purchased this so it is nice to have a sample to try so I'm not technically complaining even though it sounds like it.  Just probably not a purchase I will remake.  The scent of this is not necessarily my style either but I will still use it.  (Unlike one I got last month that I couldn't even open the bottle and had to give away)

Harvey Prince perfume in Hello .05oz
Again, this is something I'm not a huge fan of, I just don't wear a lot of perfume.  But this is something that is good to get in a subscription box because you get just a sample of it instead of a whole bottle.  You can use it a few times to see if you really like it or not instead of spraying it in the store and regretting the purchase later.  Much to my surprise I really like this scent!  It's labeled as being cheerful citrus with floral notes.  Not sure what that is but I guess I like it!  it also comes in a cute spray bottle instead of the kind you'd have to tip over and apply.

Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash .1oz
Now this, this I was so excited to get!  I absolutely love mascara, it's my staple, and I'm always looking for what will volumize and lengthen my lashes to make them beautiful.  I feel like mascara pulls my entire look together!  Enough about that.  The Roller Lash is brand new - in fact not even on the market until February 27th.  It's marketed that the hook design brush will catch, lift and curl your lashes.  We shall see if it holds up to the test!  You can pre-order yours now at Birchbox, a full size is $24.

I also need to mention that I received a $30 of $75 order at Rent the Runway.  I'm not sure that this is something I will actually use but I am curious about this company.  If you've ordered from them or know anything please let me know in the comments.

I know my overall first impression sounds like a real downer at this point and I'm glad you made it past that.  I don't mean to sound so negative I just always want to be honest about how I feel and what I think.  I have really liked Birchbox so far and never figured I would love every single box I got.  I still think it's work the $10 and I will use everything in the box.  What did you get in your Birchbox?  Have you tried them out yet?

Stay tuned for reviews on the items I received along with more first impressions on other sub boxes.
